Report from Deb Wilks, Executive Chair of Matildas Committee

2018 has been a very busy year for the Executive Committee – a couple of highlights have been-

  1. Finalising the details for the Emerging Women’s Leadership Award.

  2. Hosting a Sponsorship evening on the 4th August 2018.

  3. Development of our sponsorship program.

  4. Writing and acquitting sponsorship and funding proposals to support the awards ceremony in the future.

  5. Commencing discussions around the need for the awards to recognise the work within the Children and Young People sector.

The Emerging Women’s Leadership Nomination form is live on the Matilda Awards web site. Remember this award is being personally sponsored by the Brisbane Women’s Leadership Group and is to identify and support women’s development in the arts. Please don’t be afraid to nominate the amazing women working in our sector and support them to gain mentoring from some of our Female arts leaders. NOMINATIONS ARE OPEN NOW!

On the 4th August we hosted a fabulous short and sweet evening bringing together people from various backgrounds who are interested in finding out more about the awards and potentially supporting the awards in the future. It was attended by just over 40 people and the feedback has been extremely positive. At the same time we have been developing a sponsorship program and identifying ways for sponsors to support future awards.

The Executive Committee have acquitted funding applications and submitted 2 funding applications for the awards in the future. Wish us luck!

Finally, it’s been raised with the Executive Committee the need for the awards to recognise shows made in the Children’s and young People’s sector. We’ve had some great discussions about this as we have some terrific organisations in Queensland making children’s work. What do you think? We would love to hear your thoughts around this as discussions continue.

Warm regards
